IPL or intense pulsed light therapy works to decrease fine lines and wrinkles, and minimize hyperpigmentation, and vascular lesions like broken capillaries. It can remove blemishes in the skin like acne, scars, sunspots, and freckles. The treatment can also stimulate collagen production and rejuvenate skin. IPL is otherwise known as the photo facial.
Lumecca is an innovative IPL system that can address these different skin conditions, targeting reds and browns and improving skin tone in fewer treatments and with less recovery time. Lumecca does not puncture or injure the skin, minimizing downtime. With Lumecca, 40% of the energy is being emitted in the 500–600nm range, resulting in much higher absorption. The number of treatments needed will vary with each patient depending on the outcome wanted, however, generally, Lumecca requires less treatments than other IPL systems.
The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1–2 weeks. IPL treatment builds upon the previous one, allowing the skin to react gradually. We recommend 3-6 treatments scheduled four weeks apart. While results are permanent for existing skin concerns, that does not mean that dark marks or freckles will not return in the future if left un-protected from the sun, or as part of the natural aging process.
Topical anaesthetic may be applied prior to the procedure but is often not necessary. A topical gel is applied to the face and patients may feel a slight tingling or heat sensation during the treatment.
